Piedmont healthcare’s previous contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) expired on March 31st. They were not able to come to an agreement so all physicians and hospitals that were previously in network with Piedmont Healthcare, are no longer covered since April 1. Prior to the contract expiration date, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia began issuing new cards to patients that had Piedmont doctors listed on their insurance cards. BCBSGA removed their name and randomly assigned them to a new physician that was not associated with Piedmont.

Piedmont wants to ensure that people are still getting the care they need so they have come up with a way for affected patients. If you are out of network with Piedmont you can still see your normal physician, however, there will be higher out of pocket costs.

Patients currently receiving care from a Piedmont Healthcare provider can request a continuation of their care at the in-network level if they are:

  • Completing a course of treatment
  • In any active course of treatment for cancer
  • Pregnant
  • Being treated for a terminal illness
  • Undergoing transplant care or waiting for a transplant
  • Being treated for a serious medical

Below is an example of what a patient out of network would pay for a visit and how much BCBSGA would cover.

For more information and help, you can call BCBSGA at 404-842-4222.
