Athens, Ga. — Residents of the Clarke Gardens apartment homes were out early Thursday morning, walking around the community and trying to sort out everything that happened Tuesday night. One thing they do know, the shooter and the shooting victim don’t even live in the community.

“It’s not a bad neighborhood, Clarke Gardens is not a bad neighborhood,” said Tammy Wise, resident of Clarke Gardens. “It’s just the people that don’t live here cause a lot of problem.”

The accused offender Daquan Faust was taken into custody and charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault. He was treated at Athens Regional for a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The victim was treated with a wound to the side of his stomach. Neither men reported the incident and police say they found out from hospital security. Police speculate several reasons why the men didn’t report the shooting.

“It could be a number of things,” said Capt. Clarence Holeman. “In the past we’ve had spouses assault one another, girlfriend/boyfriend assault one another, it could be drug related. It’s all speculation. We’re trying to pin down exactly what’s going on.”

Another resident said Tuesday night was the last straw for her family. She has three young children and can’t afford to risk keeping them in a neighborhood with so much criminal activity. She’s planning on moving as soon as possible.
