Winter weather is heading for Northeast Georgia. Reporter Kendall Trammell has the five things you need to know today.
1) Weather
Northeast Georgia has a winter storm warning that is in effect until 10 a.m. tomorrow. There is a chance that rain and snow will appear outside your homes throughout the day.
2) Road Safety
Black ice may form on parts of the roads and highways, so be sure to drive carefully if you’re out today and try to limit as much of your travel as possible.
3) Schools
You need to know that school buses will be on some of these roads earlier than usual today. Madison, Oconee, Clarke, Barrow — all of these school systems are dismissing students early today. We’ll keep you updated on our website with any possible school closings or delays tomorrow.
Whether you’re inside or out on the roads today, you want to make sure you are prepared for any emergencies that can come up like loss of power. You want to have an emergency kit on standby with items like gloves, flashlights and a first aid kit.
You don’t want to be without food tonight. The shelves at Kroger on Baxter Street in Athens are filled with eggs right now, but there is a chance stores like this can run out of some of your favorite groceries.
