Flooding Forecast Along Oconee River

River to crest at 14 feet Wednesday morning following week of rain

graphicastAthens, Ga (GradyNewSource.com) – After a week of rain, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for portions of the Oconee River in Clarke, Green and Oconee continues.

With upwards of five inches of rain across that tri-county area in the past week, forecasters say the Oconee River will crest near 14 feet early Thursday morning. Flood stage on the river is considered 13 feet. By Tuesday, the river had already reached 12 feet.

Minor flooding is forecast along the riverbank both upstream and downstream of the river gage, located at the Highway 15 overpass near Pinfield inside the Oconee National Forecast. The river bank is expected to flow into agricultural land and pastures located adjacent to the waters.

The river is expected to drop to below flood stage by later Thursday.
