–Athens, Ga

He simply walks in, no name tag, no uniform sometimes carrying a pen and a piece of paper claiming he is with a cleaning company or pest control. The stories vary from place to place but the motive is always the same. Wallets.

Various places in Athens-Clarke, Oconee and Barrow County have been victim to whom police believe is the same man. He is described as a middle aged black man who drives a brown or gold older model Buick. Sergeant Randy Garrett of the Athens Clarke County Police Department says that after the businesses realize who the man is, it’s too late.

“He said he was there to clean the carpet. One of the employees confirmed that he was not the carpet cleaner or that they wouldn’t be using him or whatever. And when he left they found that a wallet was missing” Said Sergeant Garrett.

Other stores in the are like Pauley’s have a protocol when it comes to people walking into their establishment claiming to be with this company or that company.

Pauley’s Bartender Jarrod Baker says “Same Contract comes in so we all know him. Same plumber comes in so we all know him.”

Sergeant Garrett gives this advise to the businesses who have not been visited by this mystery man.

“Basically, you know, if someone comes into your business and you don’t know him you need to question them.” Says Garrett.

This man is currently still at large. If you have any information regarding these thefts please call Detective Louis Pasqualetti at 706-353-4216.
