Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and republican nominee Donald Trump will face off in the first of three presidential debates on Monday at 9pm ET at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Here are a few fun facts ahead of the debate:
- Lester Holt will be the first African American to moderate a presidential debate since Carole Simpson in 1992. Simpson moderated the debate between Bill Clinton, George Bush and Ross Perot.
- This is the first time a female nominee will be participating in a presidential debate.
- Monday’s debate is set to hit record numbers of over 100 million viewers, according to network executives and political strategists. The current viewership record is at 80 million viewers who tuned in for the 1980 debate between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
- The debate is set to be tried on all major networks and their respective websites but it will be the first time it will be broadcasted live on social media. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube will all stream the debate live.
