If you are a 2013 Hyundai Elantra owner, then you may be at risk for a vehicle safety recall. Models manufactured between January 23 and April 30, 2013 have been determined to have defects in their automatic shift levers and brake pedal stoppers.
These vehicles will require replacement of the break pedal stopper pad– a small round cushion that sits right behind the brake pedal. This padded material can deteriorate over time resulting in an inability to move the gear shift properly, the car’s rear lights continuously staying on, and a constant display of the traction control light.
There will also be changes made to the shifter cable e-clip, a cord inside of the shift lever that establishes proper gear selection. This means that placing your car in “park” doesn’t assure that it won’t roll forward or backward. You should raise your parking brake every time until the piece has been replaced at your local Hyundai dealership.
