Local Transportation SPLOST Plans to be Discussed

The Mayor and Commission are going to be looking at when and how they are going to start spending TSPLOST at tonight’s work session.

TSPLOST, short for Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, was passed last week with around 74 percent of the vote. It will add one cent to sales tax in Athens-Clarke County starting in April of 2018.

Reporter Jane Snyder spent the day talking with members of the special council that has authority on planning of the projects implementation.

Some TSPLOST projects such as the Whitehall and Milledge Intersection improvement are what the committee calls “Shovel ready. This means as soon as the Mayor and Commission makes a decision on funding, construction can start right away.
