Navy veteran takes Athens-area veteran to and from their doctor’s appointments

Athens, GA – A retired Navy veteran is helping his fellow veterans get to and from their doctor’s appointments. Through the Disabled American Veterans, Roger Majchrzak takes veterans to their doctor’s appointments two to three days out of the week and does it free of charge. Veterans tell him when their appointments are, and Majchrzak coordinates a transportation plan to get the veterans where they need to go. He takes veterans around the Athens area, as well as to and from Veterans Affairs facilities in Augusta. Out of the 4,500 veterans in the Athens area, almost 700 of them have already used the Majchrzak’s program at least once since he started eight years ago. Reporter Allison Morrow has more details on this voluntary program and why Majchrzak does it.
