New Sports Complex Opens in Auburn, Georgia

Ayyy batta’ batta’…Swing! Auburn athletes and community members could start practicing their swings because a new sports complex is coming to the Mary Carter Ball Park. The current ball park consists of only four baseball fields and is primarily used by the youth of Auburn. Mayor Mary Blechinger says the new facility will demolish the current fields, and create a broad sports complex usable for all ages.

She also says, “This additional 7 acres will really help us to achieve our long range plan, which is to turn those ball fields into a sports complex so we can offer more sports for children as well as adults.”

The Auburn city council bought the 8.134 acres for $60,000 as a part of he 2012 SPLOST parks and recreation fund. Mayor Blechinger says in order to plan the complex, they need to hire a Parks and Leisure Director. They are currently in the interview process for this position.

Blechinger says the planning for the new complex will begin soon and she hopes to have it completed in the next five years.
