Oconee County Holds Georgia’s Highest Graduation Rate

Athens, GA | Nov. 17

Story Highlights

  • Oconee County now has the highest graduation rate in the state.
  • The recently released graduation rate for Oconee County stands at 91.9%.
  • This is an increase of .9% from 2013.
  • Reporter Shannon O’Keefe is at North Oconee High School to find out their trick to success.

It’s time to throw your caps in the air! And not because it’s time to graduate… but because they now have the highest graduation rate in the state.

The newly released graduation rates say that almost 93% of the students walking through the hallways of North Oconee High School right now, will also walk across the stage on graduation day.

But the principal of North Oconee High School, Philip Brown, says there’s really no trick to it.

”I think there’s alot of blood sweat and tears that goes into something like that! Anytime you see a kid crossing the stage, you’re excited for them! And kids often view that as a stepping stone of what they’re really going to do,” says Brown.

Brown says it’s all about the community. He says students will never know how much you know, until you show them how much you care! And that’s exactly what their entire community does.
