Oconee Resident Proposes SPLOST Funding for Museum

Oconee resident Ryan Page has put together a proposal for SPLOST funding in order to build an Oconee history museum. Page will speak to the Oconee County Historical Society at the county library tonight.

County Administrator, Justin Kirouac, says that Page has given the Board of Commisioners the proposal, but it will be a long road before a decision is reached.

“There’s a lot of very valuable historical projects that are out there,” Kerouac says. “There is money in the SPLOST budget set aside for historical projects. I don’t know if there will be enough to fund what they’re doing entirely, but it’s something that they can consider going forward.”

Kirouac is concerned that the budget does not have enough room to afford the $300,000 needed for the land acquisition, building, and staff.

You can go to the Oconee County Library tonight at 6 p.m. to join the discussion.
