Oglethorpe County Home Safety Tips

By: Janai James

An increase in burglaries in Oglethorpe County has county officials concerned. The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Department released a few tips from Crime Stoppers to make sure your home is safe while you are away.

  • Do not post updates or photos on social websites of where you are.
  • Have a trusted neighbor, friend, or family member to keep a check on your residence and pick up your mail.
  • Tell as few people as necessary when, and how long you are going to be on vacation.
  • Ask the Sheriff’s Department for an extra watch on your residence. All you have to do is call the nonemergency phone number (706)-743-8101 and set the watch up with the 911 call center.
