Rerouting Commercial Trucks

Storm Rerouting Plan

If trucks are rerouted from Atlanta from Interstate 85 to US 441, they will follow this plan when traveling the GA 10 Outer Loop.

ATHENS – Commercial trucks not allowed on the Perimeter Loop to get through Atlanta will have an alternate route: US 441.

This contingency plan by the Georgia Department of Public Safety will send the truckers through Athens on the GA 10 Loop, for the duration of the winter storm.

For now, trucks have not been rerouted. But should that be the case, police officers and state law enforcement will ensure trucks abide by a number of rules:

  • to stay in the far right lane
  • to only use the outer loop, or the Athens Perimeter
  • to not enter inside the Perimeter, except for deliveries in Athens

When asked how Athens-Clarke County would deal with this plan, Public Information Officer Jeff Montgomery answers:
