Starbucks to Close 8,000 U.S. Stores May 29 for Racial-Bias Training

More than 8,000 Starbucks nationwide will close for a day of racial bias training on May 29th, but it’s unclear whether Athens stores are among them. This closing sparked from the controversial video of police arresting two black men in a Philadelphia Starbucks last week.

Grady Newsource Reporter Karson Bankhead spoke with one local Starbucks employee about her experience behind the counter.

“I work with all types of people. We get to learn about each other’s culture and we have created a safe environment to speak on different issues, so it doesn’t feel like anyone is getting discriminated against,” Katera said.
