Students Try Out Drunk Buster Goggles

Athens, GA—After a night of drinking, you may experience dizziness, blurred vision and loss of balance. Today dozens of UGA students went through the same symptons without drinking a drop of alcohol.

Diana Valdovinos was one of these students. They took a”field sobriety test” wearing drunk buster goggles, which simulated blood alcohol levels of up to .02. According to Cesar Chavez, one of the brothers of Lambda Theta Phi, “this was all part of a Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity initiative to create awareness on the effects of alcohol on the body”. While there it was all fun and games, this is the real test that police use to measure drunkenness.

The test consists of taking nine steps on top of a white line while wearing the drunk buster goggles. These mimic what it would feel and look like if you had a high blood alcohol count. Basically, they impair your vision and your motor skills. Depth and distance perception gets altered, you start seeing double, and coordination and balance is lost.

Even though Diana tried her best to beat the odds, she said she learned one thing, “I  won’t be drinking and driving, cause I don’t wanna go to jail”.
