Latest Update: ATF Shooting Investigation

ATHENS, Ga- The investigation of the ATF shooting that happened yesterday in Athens is still ongoing. The GBI is continuing to work with the FBI to investigate the incident which occurred September 30, 2014 in Athens, GA. During that incident, an altercation ensued between an ATF agent and Javonta Darden, 20, and Steven McKinley, 21, both of Athens. During the altercation, the ATF agent was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Darden was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. McKinley was taken into custody by police and is being held at the Clarke County jail. An autopsy of Javonta Darden is being conducted today at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, GA.
