WATKINSVILLE, GA — Ashford Manor Bed & Breakfast co-owner Dave Shearon threw his name into the race for Watkinsville Mayor on Monday. As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the deadline for Mayoral candidates to submit their applications, Shearon is running unopposed.
It was a serendipitous moment for the 20-year-resident of Watkinsville. On Monday, the same day as the Great American Solar Eclipse, current Mayor Charles Ivie resigned from his post due to an aggressive form of cancer. The former advertiser had been thinking about running for months, and it all came together in a matter of hours.
Shearon is the presumptive Mayor of Watkinsville and will assume the post after election season.
