Women’s Golf Falls to No. 1 Southern Cal

ATHENS — The University of Georgia women’s golf team came up just a little short in a tie breaker against the No. 1 team Southern California.

The Bulldogs hosted some of the nation’s top teams at the annual three-day Liz Murphey Tournament in Athens.

On Friday, the 75th ranked Georgia Bulldogs tied for 7th place in stroke-play qualifying to earn a spot in a tough eight-team championship bracket, including six top 10 teams. The Bulldogs beat the No. 3 team South Carolina on Saturday morning and then beat No. 9 Northwestern in the afternoon to put the team in Sunday’s final round.

The Bulldogs fell short to the No. 1 ranked team when both teams finished match play with two and a half points. Southern Cal pulled out the win because the team’s margin of victory in it’s two wins was larger than Georgia’s two wins.
