5 Things To Know for October 21

Athens, GA –  The Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Workforce Division and the University of Georgia are hosting an High Demand Career Initiative (HDCI) meeting to discuss future workplace needs.  Governor Deal created the HDCI to allow those involved in training Georgia’s future workforce – the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia – to hear directly from the private sector about what specific needs they have from a workforce perspective.

Athens, GA – A University of Georgia professor, Dr. Fred Quinn, has just been appointed to Governor Deal’s Georgia Ebola Response Team. The team will review and assess the State of Georgia’s protocols, procedures and best practices in preparing for any potential spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

Athens, GA – The October 1st tobacco ban allows some administrators on campus to issue hefty punishments if their employees are caught smoking, up to a $200 fine and dismissal. However, some employees say the ban and its consequences have not been enforced.

Winder, GA – The Barrow County Board of Education wants to fill a vacant BOE spot. A special session will be held tonight at 6 PM.
