UGA: No Plans of Reinstating Former UGA Police Officer

ATHENS — There are no plans of reinstating a former UGA police officer who was recently fired, according to the University of Georgia’s Vice President of Public Affairs Tom Jackson.

Former officer Jay Park made headlines after saying he was fired because he gave medical amnesty to underaged drinkers.

Georgia’s medical amnesty law allows an underaged third party to call the police about finding someone critically intoxicated without fear of being arrested themselves.

Jackson said Park was fired for having a history of insubordination.

The Communications Associate for the Georgia Senate said the Georgia House of Representatives does not have any plans to change the medical amnesty law in the future.
