After a delay and some debate, food trucks will finally be coming to Athens,  Georgia.

The Athens Clarke County Board of Commisioners passed an ordinance Tuesday night which will allow food trucks to operate downtown in Athens after some protest by local restaurant owners.

Food trucks will  be allowed to operate on the streets of Hancock Avenue and College Avenue, instead of Hancock and Washington Street which was the original proposal.  All the permits for food trucks will expire on Dec. 31, 2016. After the permits expire, the Mayor and the Board of Commissioners will review the effectiveness of the food trucks.

The food trucks will operate on Thursdays between 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Friday. Food trucks will also be allowed to operate at the Farmers Marker on Sunday through Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
