Georgia is holding orientation sessions to inform people of foster parent requirements to help with the rising number of child neglect cases across the state.
According to the Georgia Division of Family and Child Services, there are approximately 11,551 children in state custody as of September of 2015
Region five, which includes Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, and surrounding counties has seen an increase in cases but a lack of safe homes.
At the end of December, 103 children were split among seven active foster homes in Barrow alone.
To help find homes for these children, Region five DFCS offices are holding orientation sessions to inform people of foster parent requirements. If you would like more information on how you can help, the next oreintation session will be tomorrow night, January 25, at 6 pm at the Barrow DFCS office located at 16 Lee Street in Winder.
