With Possible Renovations Upcoming: A Look Back on Brumby Hall

On Oct. 9, the Georgia Board of Regents reviewed a proposal for a potential renovation on Brumby Hall. This would be the first major renovation to the dorm since its opening in 1966.

Brumby is one of the three high-rise dorms located on Baxter Street. The dorm is nine stories and holds 950 beds.

“The project, which will cost approximately $53.8 million, will reconfigure all living, bathroom and programmatic spaces. In addition, ADA accessibility needs will be addressed and student amenities will be enhanced,” Greg Trevor, the executive director of media communications at the University of Georgia, said.

Why It’s Newsworthy: Brumby Hall was the second high-rise to be built at the University of Georgia. The history of the dorm is ingrained in the history of the university. And after more than 50 years, the dorm may be renovated.

The renovation proposal is set to be voted on by the Board of Regents at its November meeting.

In expectation of a possible renovation, here is a look back on the history of the 52-year-old dorm and its residents.
