Afternoon Webcast 4/18

ATHENS,GA–

Thank you for joining me for your midday webcast, I’m web anchor Leah Goldman.

It’s events on events on events this weekend in Athens. I thought I would run you through some of the big events happening around town.

The UGA Bug Dawgs of the Entomology Department will host the Beers and the Bees event at Terrapin Beer Company tonight from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Bug Dawgs will have a booth at Terrapin with a live bee exhibit, edible insects and education materials explaining the benefits of pollination. The $10 admission fee includes a tour of the brewery, a chance to sample Terrapin beers and a Beers and the Bees Terrapin glass.

It’s time to shut the door on cancer with UGA’s annual Relay for Life. Relay’s main event begins tomorrow night at 7. It kicks off with the surviver lap, when the guests of honor walk around the field to teams cheering them on. It’s a way for participants to honor and celebrate what the survivers have overcome. The rest of the 12-hour event will feature local music, food, and activities. Every pennny raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Another big event this weekend is the 2013 Great Southland Stampede Rodeo. This event will be from the 19th thru the 21st at the South Milledge Arena. Doors open at 6 pm.

Those are just a taste of happenings going on in town this weekend. Our reporters will have more in our newscast at 5. As always, I will have tonight’s producer, Hannah Patrick for you in your afternoon webcast.
