UGA’s Relay for Life event is this Friday, and due to inclement weather, it will now be held in the main gym at the Ramsey Center. The money will go towards the American Cancer Society and different programs for cancer patients and research.
Relay Executive and Colleges Against Cancer Chair Tyler Andrews said their goal is to raise $225,000. They are expecting over 2,000 people since it will be held inside. He says they usually have a little over 3,000.
Michael Alvarez is a student cancer survivor and Relay participant. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of soft tissue cancer when he was only three years old. He says he knows first-hand the difference fundraising toward research makes. Doctors now have a better way of treating the cancer he had through cancer research. Alvarez says he plans to participate tomorrow.
