The Complete Streets organization will revamp their master plan for Athens-Clarke County next week with a new emphasis on all of Athens, not just Prince Avenue.
The number of collisions and injuries have increased in Athens Clarke County each year for two straight. This year’s incidents are rapidly approaching into September.
In years past, Complete Streets stressed Prince Avenue safety foremost, but with incidents rising elsewhere, the project will expand city-wide. Statistics have shown Athen’s 2015 incident numbers rapidly are approaching the previous two years, according to Darrell Robinson of the Traffic Safety Research and Evaluation Group.
The number of deaths in Athens from car-pedestrian collisions has increased from three fatalities in 2013-2014, to four through Sept. of 2015.
Complete Streets has posted updated photos and city layouts on their website, but have run into more question marks with the City Commissioners. Reporter Madison Keiger’s story on the issues revolving the revamped project will be live 5 p.m.
