Athens, GA – One of the biggest days in retail is just one week away: Black Friday. This year’s Black Friday shopping may last longer than just one day. That’s because some local stores will extend their shopping hours on next Friday. While merchants expect the expanded hours to grow their profits, Krissy Robinsson reports on some retail employees who say that Black Friday could bring on a Blue Thursday.

Simone Hopps works at Macy’s as a sales associate. She is not the only one who has a problem with working on Thanksgiving day.

“I barely makes over minimum wage working 14  or more hours is just not worth it,” Hopps says.

Last year, Black Friday Sales nationwide totaled over $12 billion, averaging about $400 per person.

Stores in Georgia Square Mall will open its doors for customers at 6:00pm on Thanksgiving Day again this year.
