The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a gunman in response to the shooting death of an 18-year-old last week.

The victim, 18-year-old Jose Tovar-Campuzano, was shot at a residence on Rooks Road in Winder on November 4. According to the sheriff’s office, Tovar-Campuzano was trying to moderate an argument between two individuals, one of which was the son of 45-year-old Roberto Arellano.

In the middle of the attempted resolution, Arellano came out of his house with a rifle and shot Tovar-Campuzano in the abdomen. The East Jackson Comprehensive student succumbed to the injury at Athens Regional.

Arellano remained on scene after the shooting and was seen attempting to give aid to the victim, and was arrested soon thereafter.

The 45-year-old is currently in custody at the Barrow County Detention Center on charges of Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.
