E-SPLOST initiative Passed

Citizens voted in favor of the E-SPLOST initiative and the result could be an increase in the number of schools in Barrow and Oconee counties.  The E-SPLOST will allow for one percent of local sales tax to go towards building more schools and retiring bond debts. 65% percent of voters were in favor of the initiative.  At the state level, two constitutional amendments passed as well as a statewide referendum. The state General Assembly can no longer increase the maximum state income tax rate. Voters also supported a consititutional amendment to allow additional penalties for reckless driving to be added to the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund.
