The Oconee County Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Melissa Butler as superintendent. The decision comes after an almost four-month search.
“I am deeply honored by the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of Oconee County Schools,” Butler said in a press release. “Oconee County is a place where strong schools and strong community partnership go hand in hand, and I am committed to building on that foundation for the success of every student.”
Butler comes from Catoosa County, where she served 10,000 students as the deputy/assistant superintendent and helped the county achieve its highest-ever graduation rate.
“Having been a teacher, assistant principal, a principal and administrator, [Butler] sees it through a lot of different lenses,” said Steven Colquitt, director of communications of Oconee County Schools. “You can tell that she’s very excited about the opportunity to come here and not only help Oconee County Schools continue the high standards of success that they’ve had, but to push them to even greater heights.”
Butler will start on Oct. 14.
