New Broad Street Property to be Mix of Retail, Residential, Public Space

ATHENS  If you haven’t heard of 315 Oconee Street, you will soon.

More apartments combined with retail space is in the building process. “The Mark” will be the next student-apartment complex to make its mark on the downtown Athens skyline.

The nearly 10 acre property was purchased by Landmark Properties. After a failed attempt to insert a Walmart into downtown Athens, Landmark has redone its plans and is building a student housing complex.

Landmark detonated an explosion on its property.

The proposed plan details a rooftop pool, bedrooms accommodating two to five roommates and two parking decks. The planners are also proposing a road through the middle of each building connecting Broad Street to Oconee Street and the Greenway Trails.

Although these massive student residence spaces seem to be the trend in Athens, not all students are happy with them. Senior Danimarie Roselle says she is not used to seeing the Athens skyline constantly change.
