New Section to Oglethorpe School Board Planning Process

By: Jordynn Abernathy and Abby Jessen

The Oglethorpe County School System has added a new part to their strategic planning process… holding community listening sessions. Superintendent Beverley Levine has implemented the community session this year because she believes it is essential to have community input. Board members say this will be a chance to hear everyone’s voice on the direction of the school district before plans are developed. Watch this video to learn more about the community listening session and the online survey if you missed the event:

If you want your voice heard, here is the county’s process for debating school issues.

  • Community Listening Session
  • Survey Online
  • Focus Group of 30 people: 15 school members (faculty/staff/teachers), 15 community members
  • Focus Group with school members
  • School board: discuss big issues, make decisions, present to board to implement

The planning process began Oct. 27 at Oglethorpe County Middle School. All concerns that are discussed will not be implemented until next year.
