#OscarsSoWhite Hashtag has Impact on UGA’s Campus

ATHENS, Ga. — Chris Rock’s monologue at the Oscars hit the topic of race hard — so hard that even students at the University of Georgia paid close attention.

The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite went viral quickly in light of the fact that zero people of color were nominated for an Oscar the second year in a row, and rather than black celebrities boycotting the event as a whole, they used their platform to handle the racial controversy head on.

Reporter Kaitlin Long spoke with UGA students interested in entering the film industry about their take on the Oscars. WATCH:
