Program Offers Free Beauty Workshop for Cancer Patients

By Janai James

A hands-on 2 hour group workshop called Look Good Feel Better for women going through chemotherapy or radiation treatment is being offered. It will be held on Monday Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  It is being sponsored by the American Cancer Society at the The Loran Smith Center. The workshop provides a 12 step by step process that teaches women how to apply makeup and be confident in themselves. Participants learn about things like options related to skincare, options for hair loss/wig care, how to apply makeup and nail care.

All the volunteers are trained and certified beauty professionals by the Personal Care Products Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Professional Beauty Association. Pam Ashman, American Cancer Society program manager says that the focus of this program is to empower women to learn techniques to combat the appearance related side effect of their cancer treatment.  The next program in Athens will be Dec. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information or to register for the Look Good Feel Better program you can call 1-800-227-2345 or send an email to loransmithcenter@athenshealth.org.
