Sanford Stadium Says No More Free Refills

Many change have are being made to Sanford Stadium for the 2016 football season.
The UGA Athletic Association has made changes to Sanford Stadium for the 2016-2017 football season.

Athens, GA– The heat and the score weren’t the only things that fans were complaining about after the Georgia Bulldogs football game against Nicholls State on September 10. The UGA Athletic Association will no longer offer free refills on souvenir cups at concession stands inside the stadium.

UGA Assistant Director of Marketing and Athletic Association member John Bateman is hoping the loss of free refills will help keep the concession stand lines shorter. Bateman says they dropped the additional refills because “it was not proving to be the experience they hoped it would be, it’s clogging up the lines.”

Additional changes include new misting tents offered outside of gates 7, 10, and Reed Plaza. Also, a “black-out” game, where fans are encouraged to wear the color black, will take place November 19 against The University of Louisiana-Monroe.

The claim that refills were clogging up the line is ridiculous. Instead this weekend I saw more people standing in line and for longer periods of time than ever before increasing feelings of faintness and further exasperating dehydration. I ended up having to step out of line due to the length and wait time. The fact that I could feel the floor fast approaching was alarming and there was nothing I could do about it besides having to step out of line and attempt to find a shorter line. Refills helped encourage hydration and the lack of them caused more problems than helped. #freetherefill
