The Lead: Amy Glennon on the Transition of Journalism Leadership

The Lead is a podcast hosted and produced by Charlotte Norsworthy in the Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management & Leadership at the University of Georgia. We talk about how to get ahead in the media industry by interviewing the people who did.

I can’t believe this is the second-to-last episode of Season 6 of the podcast. This semester is flying faster than I ever thought it could.

This interview with Amy Glennon was such a joy to produce. She is this year’s Cox Institute Industry Fellow and has been completing a lecture series on campus this semester. I was able to catch up with her before one of her lectures to discuss her multi-decade career at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

She was the first female publisher of the paper and credits her newspaper beginnings to delivering papers in her Ohio community in middle school. She is also the first person I have interviewed for the podcast who is currently taking a break from work and seeing where life takes her next. It was refreshing to hear as a student, and it reminded me that we can take control of our own careers even as the industry fluctuates.

Take a listen.
