The Lead: Mariana Heredia on Fenix Journalism

In this episode, I had the pleasure of talking with Mariana Heredia, a 2013 Grady alumna.

After taking a tour around the journalism industry in Atlanta and New York City, she decided that the industry was missing something. Readers aren’t as invested in supporting journalism anymore due to a rise in distrust in the news media.

So, as a proposed solution, she created Fenix Journalism, an organization that produces crowdfunded journalism.

Her organization is still finding its footing, but we discuss her challenges and hopes for her new entrepreneurial venture.
