Athens, GA — The Spectacular Now is showing here at Cine and University 16 Cinemas. Cine was unsure if they were going to show the film at all.
Gabe Wardell the executive director at Ciné says “it’s not necessarily the kind of we would show. We show a lot of independent films.”
Cine started a fundraising campaign over the summer and the showing has helped to attract more movie go-ers to the local theater.
“So we’ve put it on both of our screens and business has been through the roof,” explains Wardell.
You can recognize locations from the film like Georgia Bar, Clarke Central High School and the Student Learning Center.
Actress Elise Geiger from The Spectacular Now states that “just incorporating different scenes from the local areas downtown was pretty cool because you don’t really see it that often from Athens.”
The Spectacular Now has increased the prospects for future productions here in Athens.
“To have a major Hollywood production come to Athens and to have one of our own break out is a huge benefit,” adds Wardell.
