ATHENS, GA-

UGA Block and Bridle hosts the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Athens tradition.

The South Milledge Arena opens its gates at 6 PM and the show begins at 8.

Rodeo contests are divided into two categories rough stock events that are scored by a judge (bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding) and those that are timed for speed (barrel racing, steer wrestling, and the roping contests).

Chloe Buollon is in charge of the event. As a senior, she’s determined to make it the best rodeo yet.

“I am so happy to be a part of this big mark in history for the event,” she said.

This year will be The Great Southland Stampede Rodeo’s first year as a member of the International Professional Rodeo Association.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
