Jackson County, GA- The Commerce Fire Department gives away free smoke alarms to single mothers or those 65 years and older who own their own home. Women like Genelle Chandler tell us how thankful she is for this program.

300 smoke alarms were purchased with money raised from the fire department’s fundraisers. To get one you just have to call the fire department and make an appointment. They have installed about 40 so far, and will be giving them out as long as people need them. They will continue to restock as needed. Reporter Brittney Laryea sat down with the Commerce Fire Department Chief to find out why they want to help.
