Cops Say Alcohol and Severe Weather Don’t Mix

ATHENS, GA – Major Mike Hunsinger cautions those going out to bars, and encourages people to stay in.

“Mixing alcohol with severe weather situations” can be dangerous, “even if they are walking.”

Assistant Chief Fred Stephens echoes these opinions.

“Any time you have impairment due to alcohol, it magnifies the problem,” he says. “Anyone at any age can fall and slip on the ice.”

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department warns against driving under the influence always, but especially in severe weather situations.

As usual, ACC Police Officers will be out patrolling, now alongside Georgia state officers who will be in the county to aid winter weather efforts .
