Graduation Has Strong Effect on Local Business

Between convocations, the Twilight Road Race this coming weekend and graduation next week the crowds are beginning to come to town.

“Typically its just nice to know that the seasons are changing things are about to change.”, Zach Griffin from the Red Zone explained when asked about the upcoming spring commencement ceremony.

The change he is talking about is the business in downtown Athens after spring graduation.

Lisa Royals, the Owner of Clubhouse, states, “The town gets quiet with the students gone.”

But downtown Athens is expected to get busier before the lull.

“These two weeks are actually really really good.” ,Griffin explains, “Out of the eight months where its not football season, this is probably the best two week stretch.”

Graduation brings plenty of people into town, which is Griffin explains is great businesses for the downtown stores.

But, Athens residents can’t say the break from students isn’t nice.

“There’s just not as many people. You get to may and theres not as much traffic its easier to find a parking spot. A lot of people leave.” , Griffin says.

Driving, parking and overall moving may be crazier than usual during this graduation season but it is sure to settle down in the upcoming weeks afterwards.
