Documentary on Sex Trafficking, Athens Group Raise Awareness of ‘Modern-Day Slavery’

Producer and filmmaker John Carter visited the University of Georgia to premiere his documentary: American Exploitation: The Slaves Among Us. The documentary examines the world of sex-trafficking in the United States.

Why It’s Newsworthy: According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, in 2017, there were over 8,000 reported cases of human trafficking in the United States. 29 percent of those cases were reported in Georgia. An organization at the University of Georgia called, In the Fight, is working to educate and bring awareness to the issues of sex trafficking to UGA students and Athens residents.
