ATLANTA — It’s the last day….Either the bills will either live or die today during the Georgia General Assembly session known as “Crossover” Day.
The Georgia State Senate and House of Representatives each have their own bills they would like to move to the other chamber with ease. If there is any delay on voting for a bill and does not reach the crossover “deadline,” than it will stop on the floor. Any bill that does not “cross-over” will have difficulty becoming law and will meet several obstacles.
Here are some major issues we expect the General Assembly to decide on before the C-day deadline, latest 11:59pm Monday, February 29th 2016.
Our Favorite Bills on Floor:
Georgia Gambling Bill “HB 677”
Creation of up to 4 gambling locations in Georgia.- Postponed until Tomorrow (Dead)
Georgia Marijuana Bill “HB 722”
Extend Medicinal Marijuana use to other diseases.- Bill Passes medical conditions added
Increase sales tax in Fulton and Dekalb county to fund Marta Expansion.
Some bills have already “crossed-over,” House Bill 757- Freedom of Religion, and House Bill 859- Campus Carry passed the House and are in the Senates Chamber. Senate Bill 293 will have to make corrections to the minimum wage bill by deadline and vote or it will not cross-over. We will continue to follow these Bills as they pass through the Senate Chamber.
