Students at the University of Georgia are speaking out about security concerns on campus after a woman was kidnapped from the Tate Student Center parking deck early Tuesday morning. UGA currently has no staff monitoring the deck after 11 p.m., despite the Miller Learning Center remaining open all night.
UGA student Katherine Feagan said she usually doesn’t leave campus until 2 a.m.
“I think that they should have more security measures,” Feagan said, “maybe security cameras that are on 24/7 or a security guard from campus police.”
Feagan was also concerned that UGA did not alert students that a kidnapping happened on campus. Feagan, a resource assistant for the Student Government Association, said she would talk to her director about ideas for new security measures in the parking deck to help students feel safer.
Grady Newsource contacted the UGA Public Affairs office about its security measures, but the office said they were too busy to comment. UGA Parking Services said cameras are placed throughout the Tate parking deck and the office’s website says UGA police routinely patrol the area.
